The Hairy Violinist (Lyrics/Michael LeeworthyMusic/Chris Swayn) Well this one, he has a special air. He looks familiar, I am sure I’ve seen him somewhere. His movements, They have an animated sway, He dresses in tails…but the frayed cuffs, they give him away. He’s quite at home, pouring his soul in the gutter. He’s one part genius, to three parts nutter. Now the air fills, with Verdi and Ravel to boot, Even on this chilly morning, his notes they penetrate all the suits. They stop and stare. They throw coins in his case. ‘Why’s he not in a hall?’ This maestro with his pavement base. He’s quite at home pouring his soul in the gutter. He’s one part genius, to three parts nutter. The Hairy Violinist on his wooden box. This musical dichotomy…a paradox. Well this one, he has a special air. He looks familiar. I am sure I’ve seen him somewhere. Yes I am sure I’ve seen him somewhere.

Best ‘til Last (C Swayn) Some save the best ‘til last, some cannot wait that long I’m celebrating differences, there is no right or wrong Some like to take it slow, some like to have a plan Some cannot wait that long, they take it while they can Some measure their approach depending on the situation Some assess all possibilities based on current information But with some you’re never sure just what way it will go They always keep you guessing, keeping you on your toes And that’s how I think of you And it’s why I love you like I do I sat and scratched my head, I weighed up the play But as the play unfolded it turned out another way You weren’t the first one that I loved but that’s all in the past As it’s all turned out you know I saved the best till last A new adventure everyday And I wouldn’t want it any other way

“Love Me,” Said The Sun (M Leeworthy/C Swayn) “Love me,” said the trees. “Love me,” said the trees. “And I will give you wood and all the air you can breathe,” “Just love me,” said the trees. “Love me,” said the sky. “Love me,” said the sky. “And I will give you clouds and space for birds to fly,” “Just love me,” said the sky. “Love me,” said the waters. “Love me,” said the waters. “And I will quench the thirst of all the sons and daughters,” “Just love me,” said the waters. “Love me,” said the sun. “Love me,” said the sea. “Love me,” said the sea. “And I will let you float your boat on top of me,” “Just love me,” said the sea. “Love us,” said the creatures. “Love us,” said the creatures. “Treat us all respectfully and marvel at our features,” “Just love us,” said the creatures. “Love me,” said the sun. “Love me,” said the earth. “Love me,” said the earth. “Because to me you will return for what it’s worth,” “Just love me,” said the earth.

Hello David 04:51
Hello David (B Swayn/C Swayn) They walked me back into Nazareth I’d been away awhile Falling down upon my knees Was never quiet my style They said boy you missed a Christmas The best one by a mile. When you know,it’s coming You cannot even speak The tear that trickles down your cheek Is not a sign of being weak You just reached the end Of thatlucky winning streak So you live it standing up, As straight as you can Bite your lip, and hold your breath And try to be a man. If all that you can do Is the only thing you can? They said this guy came in last week, Well he turned back the tide He split an ocean and they walked across Everyone kept nice and dry Still I think the only miracles Getting out of here alive My captors you can mock me, Simply do your worst I don’t have the answers, to satisfy your thirst But rest assured I’ll do my best And always put you first They walked me into Nazareth I fell to my knees I must have only missed the mark By one or two degrees But rising up’s still noble, Do you not agree?

Crying 03:23
Crying (C Swayn) I’ve taken to crying, turned it into an art I’ve taken to crying, ‘cause of my shattered heart Now turning a negative into a positive, I’m good at something And it’s better to have loved and lost, than to never have loved at all I’ve taken to crying, I’ve taken to crying, I’ve taken to crying and I’ve turned it into an art I’ve taken to crying, and I turned it into an art I’ve taken to crying, because of my shattered heart Now I’m turning a negative into a positive, at least I’m good at something And it’s better to have loved and lost, than to never have loved at all Now I’m crying just like a baby, I’ve got tears hanging off of my nose Boxes of tissues and handkerchiefs and you still smell sweet as a rose Now I’m turning a negative into a positive, you know I’m good at something And it’s better to have loved and lost, than to never have loved at all I’ve taken to crying, turned it into an art I’ve taken to crying, on account of my shattered heart Now turning a negative into a positive, I’m good at something And it’s better to have loved and lost, than to never have loved at all I’ve taken to crying, I’ve taken to crying, I’ve taken to crying and I’ve turned it into an art I’ve taken to crying, and I’ve turned it into an art I’ve taken to crying, on account of my shattered heart I’ve taken to crying, and I’ve turned it into an art

about

The Little Earnest Orchestra

Chris Swayn (From The Warrains) has a new side project. Armed with time from lockdowns and with lyrics from Michael Leeworthy, his father Barry, plus some of his own, he has recorded a new original EP: The Hairy Violinist (available on Bandcamp.)

To help flesh out the songs he assembled The Little Earnest Orchestra, which is namely Jenni Moser (From TARA and The Peninsula Chamber Musicians) on violin.

For live performances they perform as a duo or for larger shows enlist Chris's sons Hamish on drums, and Finn on bass.
